Cellular Broadband Signal Strength and Signal Quality

Windstream’s Cellular Broadband vendors provide us with reception/signal strength and coverage data that is used in ordering systems to select the best provider for Cellular Broadband service for a specific address at the time the order is placed.

More information regarding the process Windstream uses to install Cellular Broadband can be found here.

Customer Leave Behind – a post-sale, customer leave behind regarding the best practices for optimal cellular performance and device placement.

The primary point to remember to communicate about Windstream’s Cellular Broadband signal is, it’s all about the cellular equipment placement. There is an excellent write up on “4G LTE Antennas and the Importance of the Cradlepoint Installation Location” by Mike Gisel on how antennas can only do so much if the placement of the cellular device is poor.

In the rare instance that after moving the Cellular Broadband device away from potential signal killing impediments, non-standard external antennas can be used to try to extend the range or improve the location of how the Cellular Broadband equipment receive the wireless signal.

During installation, the Field Ops technician will confirm the wireless signal within the customer’s building, cabinet, demarc, etc. The Windstream Field Technicians carry a stock of external antennas with a 6ft cable to give more options for antenna placement for best signal should it be needed. There is not a charge for this antenna if used.

Our Field Technician signal troubleshooting guide is here.

After all troubleshooting steps have been taken and it is determined by the Field Technician or Repair, a RMA/carrier swap can be requested by those organizations. The QRG for this process is here.
